And So It Begins

Was working in the yard last night and my neighbor’s son was telling me about things like super heroes and Halloween. And he referred to a Character Parade at his school, and I felt something inside me shift. Like a giant dark embryo of hate (this happens a lot). So I asked him what that was and he explained that it’s not a Halloween costume contest, but rather a parade of characters (kids in Halloween costumes). The word “Halloween” was horribly absent. And the act of having a contest was nowhere to be seen.
As someone who never won a costume contest, and whose dreams were dashed by this fact, I still love that I had the empty hope that I MIGHT win. I looked forward to this probable loss each year. And that ONE time when I thought I was about to win (and they picked that rich kid next to me), well, that half second of Joy was amazing (I think the Devil lives in those half seconds).
So I saw the article below and I felt that embryo shifting again.
