Death By Screwdriver

This was the year that I was the most satisfied with our jack o’lanterns. We came close in 2009, but something was still missing. I wanted them to look like they were put there by the Witches, and not injected into the scenery. I tried to imagine what someone who didn’t fully understand the carving tradition (or was mocking it) would do with a pumpkin’s face.
I gave a pretty obnoxious speech to Bean about this on the day we were going to carve the faces. I even said something like, “Now, you realize I might have to carve all of these myself…to have it flow. So don’t be hurt if I don’t like the faces you carve…”
Yeah.
Well, I tried to do one pumpkin and gave up. Then I looked over and saw an amazing face being stabbed out with a screwdriver. And then another.
And I was assigned pumpkin-gutting duties at the kitchen sink, as my wife proceeded to carve twisted and disturbed faces with only a screwdriver.
