Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights continues to drop news and unveil surprises by revealing that AMC TV’s The Walking Dead will have a maze at both the Orlando and Hollywood Parks this year!
I think this is an exciting choice but I’m curious to see how it’s executed in the park…
On the one hand, when I saw the image from the pilot episode (and subsequently used in the marketing materials, see pic) of hospital doors bursting with zombies and the spray painted words “Don’t Open, Dead Inside” I thought to myself, “Wow, that would be a cool Halloween display.”
On the other hand, now that The Walking Dead maze will be a reality I wonder how Universal can make it different than just another zombie-infested maze. If you know the show (or the superb comics), you know that it’s a human drama that happens to be based in a zombie apocalypse. As it’s not very scary to have Rick and the rest of the humans running around a maze, that leaves it just zombie-focused, and I wonder what can be done to make it true to the show, but offer a unique Halloween maze experience separating itself from generic zombies stalking fright-goers.
Regardless, I know that Universal will bring their usual level of detail and attention to the maze and I look forward to seeing the completed illusion come October.
Can’t wait to find out what Universal will be unveiling next as far as licensed themes. To read up on my love affair with this long-running Halloween park, go HERE, HERE, HERE or HERE.
If you haven’t indulged in the show or comics, get up to speed with the product links via Amazon in the rotisserie below (and I get a couple nickels if you order, FYI).
